When one journey ends another begins: A transformation story
At Oldewood Design Studio, we love taking old, worn-out furniture and giving it a new lease on life. Our latest project involved transforming a children’s seat bench from the 90s into a beautiful seat for the front entrance of a newly retired couple. This bench, made of solid pine, was passed on to the couple by their daughter after it was no longer needed.
The retired couple approached us with a request to transform the bench into something that would fit perfectly in their front entrance. They wanted it to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing, and we were more than happy to take on the challenge.
The first step in the transformation process was to choose the right paint colour. We opted for Fusion Mineral Paint in the colour Oakham, as it perfectly complemented the couple’s existing décor. The paint not only provided a fresh new look to the bench but also added durability and protection.
Next, we decided to give the seat a touch of elegance by applying an antique stain. This not only enhanced the natural beauty of the wood but also added a vintage charm to the overall design. The stained seat created a beautiful contrast against the painted frame.
To make the bench truly unique and personalized for the couple, we decided to add hand-painted murals on the side of a tree. The tree symbolized growth, strength, and stability, which are all attributes that the couple wanted to reflect in their new front entrance seat. The murals were meticulously painted, adding a touch of whimsy and artistry to the piece.
Finally, we wanted to ensure that the seat would withstand daily use and remain in pristine condition for years to come. To achieve this, we finished the seat with hard wax oil by Oli Natura. This not only provided a protective layer but also enhanced the natural grain of the wood, giving it a warm and inviting look. For the rest of the bench, we used Hemp oil by Fusion Mineral Paint, which added a subtle sheen and further protected the painted surface.
The transformation of this children’s seat bench into a front entrance seat was a true labour of love. The retired couple was thrilled with the final result, and we couldn’t be happier to have brought their vision to life. It just goes to show that with a little creativity and some expert craftsmanship, even the most outdated pieces of furniture can be transformed into something truly remarkable.
