Rejuvenated Elegance: A Sideboard’s Transformation
This charming little sideboard was gathering dust in a furniture thrift store in the south of Germany, it’s potential hidden beneath layers of neglect.
Upon acquisition, the sideboard’s journey to restoration commenced with a meticulous endeavor to rid it of the accumulated grime and aged coatings of furniture polish. Patiently, each layer was peeled away, revealing the raw essence of the piece beneath.
The veneer, adorned in a captivating hue of red and gold, held promise, albeit obscured by the passage of time. With skilled hands and an eye for detail, the veneer underwent a delicate process of stripping and re-staining, restoring its original vibrancy and luster. This transformation breathed new life into the sideboard, accentuating its inherent elegance.
Eager to infuse modernity into its design while honouring its timeless appeal, the sideboard received a contemporary update. The sides and inner spaces received a chic “Storm” colour treatment from the Lignocolor range, adding depth and contrast to its renewed aesthetic. To complement this bold choice, a striking self-adhesive wall print was selected, serving as a captivating backdrop that harmonized with the sideboard’s renewed style.
Recognizing the importance of balance and proportion, the antiquated ‘legs’ were replaced with four new counterparts, meticulously stained to match the existing veneer. This subtle modification not only enhanced the sideboard’s stature but also imbued it with a newfound sense of grace and sophistication.
As the restoration neared completion, attention turned to the finer details. The hardware, weathered by time and neglect, underwent a rejuvenating transformation, receiving a coat of matte old gold paint. This final touch added a touch of vintage charm while seamlessly integrating with the sideboard’s refreshed aesthetic.
As always, I’m incredibly grateful that a piece I’ve worked on has found a new home and am excited that it will bring joy to its new owners in the years to come.
