Follow My Almost Complete Guide Towards Re-imagining a Vintage Desk
Actualizing my dream of showcasing my work in a local space has been a rewarding journey. The opportunity arose in an unconventional place: the foyer of a local physiotherapy center. Thanks to the positive feedback I received on a piece I previously refurbished for the center’s manager, Catherina Berkau, this collaboration felt serendipitous. With great enthusiasm, we agreed that I would introduce some of my creations in this unexpected setting.
The presence of a television on the wall was an irresistible opportunity. It allowed me to craft a short video detailing my creative process. As I set up the pieces for display, I also embarked on the restoration of a stunning vintage desk I had recently acquired. Amidst the frenzy, I occasionally forgot to document my progress, but I managed to capture enough to assemble a compelling video.
Surprisingly, the vintage desk found a new home even before I could complete its transformation. Its allure was undeniable. Rather than delving into the intricate details of the process, I invite you to experience it firsthand in the video below.
As I peeled back layers and restored the desk, I unveiled the exquisite teak veneer that graced its top and sides. This wood’s inherent beauty and tone were striking. To achieve a harmonious look, I stained the legs and trim to blend seamlessly with the veneer. Hardwax oil (Oli Natura) lent a protective finish to the veneer, while Fusion Mineral Paint’s Coal Black artfully framed the wood’s elegance. The hand-drawn and painted images on the drawers drew inspiration from the art of Zentangle, a captivating drawing technique that deserves a moment of exploration
So here it is.
