MY Story
About Me
Oldewood Design Studio began as a creative venture during the pandemic years of 2020–2022. What started with a few commissions from friends soon evolved into a full-fledged journey as a furniture refurbisher and artist, working under the name Máire – Furniture Artist. As my work grew and evolved, I embraced a broader vision in 2022, rebranding as Oldewood Design Studio.
Like many adventures, this one came with both excitement and uncertainty. Despite its promise, I eventually made the difficult decision to close the business at the end of 2024. This website now lives on as a portfolio—a testament to the work I’ve done and, I hope, a source of inspiration for others exploring sustainable and creative living.
At my core, I’m a creative. I’ve found my niche in furniture artistry, but I’m also a coach, a teacher, an international citizen, and a lifelong learner. Refurbishing, repurposing, and upcycling furniture has been my way of engaging with environmental sustainability, creative expression, and human connection.
Nature has always been my greatest muse, and its influence runs through much of the work I’ve created.

The Values Behind the Studio
Although Oldewood Design Studio is no longer an active business, the principles that guided my work remain important to me. What follows is a reflection of the values and intentions that shaped every piece I created—ideas rooted in sustainability, creativity, and care.
100% refurbished
Each piece received a complete make-over. Cleaned, polished, waxed, refinished, repaired…
High Quality
Each element was given close attention and high quality refinishing elements were used.
Beautifully finished
I used, wherever possible, oils and waxes to create a durable, eco-friendly finish.

Eco-friendly products
It Was not always possible to use 100% Eco-friendly products but I did My Best to:
01
Use finishes that Were Human and Earth Friendly.
I used natural waxes and oils—like hemp oil—to create durable, beautiful finishes on both natural wood and painted surfaces.
02
Strip and Clean Using Sustainable products
It often took more time and effort, but using sustainable products for stripping and cleaning felt like the right choice.
03
Keep old pieces In Use
My motto was reuse, repurpose, recycle. I did my best to give old pieces a second chance at life, keeping them out of landfill and back in circulation where they belonged.
